Details about ShipStation's DPD Corporate integration. Includes requirements, connection process, features, and integration notes.

DPD provides both domestic and international delivery services. ShipStation offers two ways to use DPD services: by connecting your existing account, or through ShipStation Carrier Services.

This page explains how to connect your existing DPD account to use in ShipStation. For information on ShipStation's pay-as-you-go option that also provides access to some DPD services, see our page on ShipStation Carrier Services.

DPD Local Accounts

DPD Requirements

Connection Requirements:

  • An active account with DPD. Contact DPD Sales to open an account!

  • Your DPD Username and Password.

  • Account Nickname (for use in ShipStation)

  • Contact your DPD Local Account Manager to let them know you intend to use ShipStation, and for instructions to create test labels.

  • DPD must approve your test labels. Failure to get approval before you start shipping DPD parcels in ShipStation could result in your account being suspended!

International Requirements:

  • DPD does not accept paper commercial invoices. ShipStation will pass the customs and commercial invoice information electronically.

  • Parcels will be charged VAT based on their clearance hubs when shipping from Great Britain.

Connect a DPD account to ShipStation

To connect your DPD account to ShipStation:

  1. Select the DPD tile and click Connect.

  2. Enter your DPD Username and Password, and choose an Account Nickname to identify the carrier account in ShipStation.

  3. Click Connect.

ShipStation's integration with DPD allows for the following additional features:

DPD Pickup Shops

Arrange a pickup for your shipments with DPD directly, or drop them off at a DPD Pickup Shop. Use the DPD Pickup Shop Finder to find the pickup location closest to you!

Duties Paid Indicator

To ship internationally you MUST select "Bill duties and taxes to payor of shipping charges" - this is a DPD requirement.

Multi-package Shipping

For domestic shipments, you can add multiple packages.

The carrier integration can be used to create domestic shipping labels.

The carrier integration can be used to create international shipping labels.

ShipStation will submit international customs information electronically to the carrier.

The carrier integration can be used to create domestic return labels.

ShipStation will display estimated shipping rates for the carrier based on the connected account information and shipment details.

Additional carrier insurance can be purchased through ShipStation.

Shipping labels created for this carrier will include a tracking number that can be used to view the shipment status on the carrier's tracking website. Tracking may not be available for all shipping services.

When tracking is available, ShipStation will automatically track the shipment status and update the tracking status on the Shipments tab. This feature allows for other advanced ShipStation features like delayed notifications and the Branded Tracking Page.

ShipStation can perform an End of Day process for the carrier and creates an End of Day PDF file that can be printed and provided to the carrier. The End of Day process can be mandatory or optional, based on the carrier and your account with them. The file may or may not be submitted electronically, see End of Day (Electronic).

ShipStation can print the store's logo on shipping labels created for this carrier. Label branding may not be available for all shipping services.

ShipStation can include information that will be displayed on the label as a label message. Label messages may not be available for all shipping services.

The carrier integration can be used to create multi-package shipments, where multiple individual packages are linked together into a single shipment record with a master tracking number.

You can connect this carrier integration to ShipStation multiple times using different account information, and choose which account will be used to create each shipment.

Additional Details about the DPD Integration

  • After you connect your DPD account to ShipStation, you'll need to create test labels in ShipStation and send them to DPD for approval. Your DPD Account Representative will provide you detailed instructions on what is required for the test labels. If you create shipping labels before your test labels are approved, DPD may suspend your account.

  • When shipping internationally you must select the Bill duties and taxes to payor of shipping charges under Other Shipping Options.

  • ShipStation cannot currently display estimated rates for DPD shipments.

  • ShipStation recommends adding Harmonization Codes to your customs declarations, but they are not required.

  • DPD's Two Day Service is only meant for delivery to the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Scilly Islands, and the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Otherwise, it yields an error when attempting to create a label.

  • When using the Ship to Shop service, the Ship To address must include a phone number and email address.

  • DPD shipping labels cannot be voided through ShipStation. You will receive an error notification directing you to DPD directly to void labels. Shipments created using a direct DPD integration are pay-on-use. This means you will only be charged for those shipping labels that you actually use.

  • Packages must meet a minimum weight of 100gr for all services.

  • DPD restricts the export of certain items to the EU. Review this PDF that lists items not accepted for EU export by DPDgroup.

DPD Troubleshooting Tips

Here are some common issues, potential causes, and troubleshooting tips.

How to troubleshoot or resolve

DPD labels are 4x4. ShipStation generates 4x6 labels using that 4x4 image.

Compressed images with un-scannable barcodes result if you try to workaround this and print to 4x4 labels.

Error message: "Internal Server Error TransactionID=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

DPD requires both a First and Last Name as well as a phone number in the Ship To address. 

If these fields are filled in and you are still receiving this error, please contact ShipStation support to help troubleshoot further.

Warning message: "Remember to print 3 copies of your invoice for customs clearance."

Normally, ShipStation does submit customs forms electronically, but the myDPD portal may display this warning anyway.

To check if the customs were sent electronically, go to the shipment in MyDPD portal under Delivery Information and check for Product Type. If you see this section, the customs forms were successfully sent electronically and you can ignore the warning.

However, if you select a road service to a non-EU destination or the destination is Jersey/Gurnsey, the warning is valid and you will need to print the customs forms.
